WALKIN' THAT LONELY MILE

Words and music by BlueRick Solomon

Wracked by the pain,
Shoulderin' the load,
Buffetted by winds of change,
Travelin' a dark road.

Up against it,
Each new day a trial,
Feelin' isolated,
Buried by the pile.

    Keep believin'
    No one can say when,
    A light is gonna shine,
    But until then,

      In times of desperation,
I wish you cause to smile,
      Because I'm right behind you,
      Walkin' that lonely mile.

Never easy,
Tryin' to stay true,
But there are those,
Dependin' on you.

No standin' down,
Back's against the wall,
Take measure,
And stand tall.

    Keep believin'
    No one can say when,
    A light is gonna shine,
    But until then,

      In times of desperation,
I wish you cause to smile,
      Because I'm right behind you,
      Walkin' that lonely mile.

LOST SOUL BLUES

Words and music by BlueRick Solomon
for SoloSongs LTD, Copyright 2003

Woke up this mornin’
Feelin’ came on strong.
Like the sweet smell of lilac,
Says summer's comin' on.

    Packed my old travelin' bag.
And I put on my walkin' shoes.
The open road is callin' me,
    To pay my wanderer's dues.

Ain't good at stayin’
In one place too long.
Mighty fine at knowin’
When it's time to be movin’ on.

So I packed my old travelin’ bag,
And I put on my walkin’ shoes.
The open road is callin' me,
    To sing those travelin' blues.

See husbands with their wives.
And their families.
Strikes a chord in my soul.
But there’s no melody.

So I packed my ol' travelin’ bag,
And I put on my walkin’ shoes.
The open road is callin' me,
To sing these lost soul blues.

Road dust is my companion.
Storm clouds 'round my head.
The open Road goes on...and on,
For me there is no end.

I packed my wasted life in a bag,
And I put on them walkin’ shoes.
The open Road is callin' me,
To sing these lost soul blues.

I said the open road beckons me,
To sing these lost soul blues...yeah

WHAT ABOUT YOU?

words and music by BlueRick Solomon
for SoloSongs Ltd, Copyright 2011

I can change time when my hand waves,
Learn 6 languages in 15 days
Change the seasons with an eye blink,
Wash these dirty dishes in the sink,

I can ride the storm, make the cold warm,
And with my finger turn the tide,
Catch a whale by the tail, leave a trail,
And take it all in stride.

I can change the flow of traffic,
With a wave of my hand,
I can turn red lights to green,
I hope ya understand.

     Make a tornadoes change direction,
     When I sneeze,
Make the hot wind stop and turn around,
     Gimme some cool breeze,

I can tell myself that nothin's wrong,
     And half believe it's true.
Ain't harldly nothin' beyond my reach,
But that's me, what about you?

I can turn a dream into reality, Turn reality into a dream,
Stop thoughts with the beat of my heart,
Make laughter from a scream.

I can listen to your troubles,
Without sharing any of my own,
I can fool myself into thinking,
I'm really not alone.

I can pee in a cup,
And have it called champagne,
Stick my head in a howlin' storm,
And think it's soft, summer rain.

     Make a tornadoes change direction,
     When I sneeze,
Make the hot wind stop and turn around,
     Gimme some cool breeze,

I can tell myself that nothin's wrong,
     And half believe it's true.
Ain't harldly nothin' beyond my reach,
But that's me, what about you?

AND THEN…

Words and music by Rick Solomon
For SoloSongs Ltd, Copyright 2003

Can’t win,
Can’t fly.
In this skin…
WHY?

Don’t want much,
Just to live.
Time’s run out,
No more to give.

     Clothes folded neatly,
     Dishes washed in the rack.
     Reached the no return point.
     There’s no turnin’ back.

Body’s sick
Can’t fight.
End it quick,
Head towards the light.

Don’t stop me.
Can’t anyway.
Tried everything,
No more to say.

     Clothes folded neatly,
     Dishes washed in the rack.
     Time for my departure,
     No turnin’ back.

Body flies,
There is no sound.
Shut my eyes,
To the onrushing ground…and then...

THE BEST PART OF THE DAY

"This is no kind of life," she sighs,
From the depths of her hospital bed,
"I'll never leave this place,
Unless I'm dead."

"You're the only thing I look forward to,
The only one who brings me hope,
Don't know what I'd do without you,
I'm at the end of my rope."

I tell her that she'll leave here,
That Dad misses his wife,
That there's more to look forward to
                          than seein' me,
That she'll resume her life.

Pull back the covers,
open the shades,
We don't want to miss,
The best part of the day.

I tell her about my life and,
smile when she comments or laughs,
We watch the TV in silence,
She asks me if I bought new pants.

"Should we open the window?" She asks,
There is no window in this darkened room.
I say no, she asks, "are you eating?"
I say yes, but I'm cheating in the gloom.

Pull back the covers,
open the shades,
We don't want to miss,
The best part of the day.

WORLD KEEPS TURNIN'

Words and music by BlueRick Solomon
for SoloSongs, Ltd. Copyright 2011

Sun come up...sun goes down,
This ol' world keeps turnin' round.

People bein' born, others dyin'
Kids are laughin', old folks cryin'
Peace is made, wars are fought.
Nations sold, people bought.

The rich get more, the poor get poorer
Them in the middle get squeezed for sure.
Some of us walk, others ride in style
everybody talkin' 'bout that lonely mile.

Everybody's dancin' to a different sound,
Nobody bothers to put their ear to the ground,

     Sun come up...sun goes down,
This ol' world keeps turnin' round.

Some people fish, others swim
Some pray to God, some deal in sin
Some are watchin', some are lookin'
Some are starvin', some are cookin'

Some tell the truth, others are born to lie,
Some are born sellin', others are buyin'
Hard to tell 'em apart, or tell what's true
Hard to see the difference between red and blue.

Everybody's dancin' to a different sound,
Nobody bothers to put their ear to the ground,

     Sun come up...sun goes down,
This ol' world keeps turnin' round.

IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS

Lyrics by Rick Solomon
for SoloSongs music 12/08/01

It's not the way you laugh when I drink your beer,
Or how your dog growls every time I come near,
It's not how you told my landlady to get off my back,
It's how you rub my head and stroke my neck.

It's not the way you went and kept me out of debt,
It's not about the time my lizard died and you held me as I wept,
Or how you told those nasty bill collectors never to come back,
Oh no, it's how you rub my head and stroke my neck.

That gets my knees to shakin' and the earth to start to quakin',
Into the walls I'm bumpin' ooh baby, you got my pulse to jumpin'.

I remember how you smiled the time you knew that I lied
About barfin' on your brand new shoes, when you you coulda cried,
And the time I took you to lunch but didn't reach for the check,
You still took me home and rubbed my head and stroked my neck

'Cause it's the little things you say and do.
Yeah the little things that keep me lovin' you.

And when you look at me like that, I've just gotta say,
the rest of the world seems to melt away.
You give me all that I can take,
And when you touch me like that,
I get that all too familiar ache.

So it's not about the time I went and crashed your car,
And you got mad, tied me to the bed, and made me scream for more.
It's not even how you told the insurance guy to get off my back,
(It's how you put your hands in my pants)
It's how you rubbed my head and stroked my long, long, yeah baby, long neck.

--so...uh...can you do it one more time???
